Why I Make Resistance Art: The F*ck Fascism Series

I’m Hansheng Lee~ an artist, storyteller, queer Asian American, and someone who refuses to stay silent while the world tilts dangerously toward authoritarianism. I was raised in the U.S. with roots in Taiwan and a spine forged through generations of resilience. I’ve lived my life with one foot in survival and the other in art—and right now, both are screaming.

Lately, we’ve seen the tide turn sharply. The U.S. is not just flirting with fascism~ it’s courting it. From rising hate crimes, book bans, forced birth laws, and attacks on queer and trans people, to the blatant targeting of immigrants, the disabled, and BIPOC communities~ what we’re witnessing is the slow march of erasure. It’s violent. It’s deliberate. And it’s happening right now.

I can’t watch quietly.

Why This Series Exists

The “Fuck Fascism” series isn’t subtle. It’s not quiet. It’s not interested in being palatable. It’s meant to be shared, to be seen, to give you something sharp to hold onto when the world gets slippery with gaslighting and whitewashed history.

I make these pieces because someone has to. Because not everyone feels safe shouting, but maybe they can post an image. Maybe they can wear a pin. Maybe they can slip a sticker onto a bathroom mirror or a lamppost. This series is about equipping the resistance~ visually, emotionally, spiritually.

As artists, we’re historians. Archivists. We capture what’s too raw to put into words. And sometimes, we’re the bullhorn. This is me using mine.

Art as Weapon, Art as Offering

These designs are created with intention: they’re digital, bold, and meant to be accessible. I want people to see them. Share them. Wear them. Tattoo them. Carry them. These aren’t gallery pieces to be tucked away behind glass. They’re resistance tools—meant to live in the world, in your hands, in protest signs, in feeds, and yes, in rage.

I know what it’s like to feel small in the face of systems so much bigger than us. But art makes us bigger. It links us. It gives language to grief, clarity to anger, and fire to hope. And I’m not making this work because I’m fearless~ I’m making it because I’m fucking terrified of what happens if we don’t speak up.

If You’re Angry, Good. Use It.

Let your rage be bathed sacred fires. Let your grief become kindling. Whether you’re a marcher, a whisperer, a sharer, a creator, a caregiver~ there’s a role for you. The Fuck Fascism series is mine. It’s one of the ways I fight back. I hope it helps you fight too.

This isn’t the end of the series. It’s just the beginning. I will keep creating and adding to this series as long as is needed.

We resist. We survive. We create.

Because fuck fascism—and everything it stands for.

With a fiery burning passion,
Hansheng

Lines That Speak: The Practice and Power of Drawing & Sketching

Many of my sketches are never shown. They stay in my notebooks, smeared and half-finished, tucked between tea stains and thoughts. And yet, those are the pieces that tell my story the clearest.
