Lee Hansheng Studios
Hansheng Lee (李翰昇) is a multimedia Taiwanese American artist currently based in Richmond, Virginia. A lifelong creative, Hansheng’s passion for art began in childhood and has since evolved into a practice that bridges fine art, storytelling, and culture. He holds a BFA in Art Education and Illustration with minors in Painting & Printmaking and Ceramics, as well as an MFA in Illustration.
Hansheng works fluidly across both digital and traditional mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, gouache, and oil, as well as stained glass, ceramics, and enamel. His art reflects a fusion of Asian and Western aesthetics, often drawing on themes of nature, memory, environmental balance, and the imagined future. His current bodies of work explore temple forms, emotional landscapes, and celestial dreamscapes.
Outside the studio, Hansheng is also a dedicated home-chef and gardener, weaving the rhythms of nature into his creative life. From seasonal harvests to traditional recipes, his culinary and horticultural practices are an extension of his art~ nourishing, intentional, and rooted in culture. These facets of his life are fully integrated into his creative identity as part of Art Collective International (ACI), where he serves as a studio founder, art educator, and advocate for sustainable, accessible creativity.
He has exhibited in galleries and community spaces, including VCU and the Glen Allen Cultural Arts Center, and continues to engage with local and global audiences through artisan markets, classes, and community collaborations. Hansheng believes in the enduring power of art to connect people across differences, foster understanding, and remind us that beauty~ like life, can be both fleeting and forever.

Before fully dedicating himself to visual arts, Hansheng and his husband Chris Foster had been planning to open a tea house~ an intimate space blending culture, design, and hospitality. The vision was a natural extension of their shared love for food, plants, and community. However, when the pandemic struck, those plans were put on indefinite hold.
Rather than pause his creative life entirely, Hansheng redirected his energy into his personal art practice. After years of working under restrictive corporate structures~ often silenced by NDAs and creative limitations~ he chose to reclaim his voice and focus on building his own studio. This shift allowed him to fully explore his interdisciplinary interests and build something with lasting impact, free from the confines of someone else’s brand.
